Learn how to get the most out of Focus Timeline
What is Focus Timeline?
Focus Timeline is a focus tracking app powered by the Pomodoro Technique. Simply stop the timer, and your work is automatically recorded on a timeline.
- No login required — start using it immediately
- Data stays in your browser — no data is ever sent to a server
- Automatic recording — sessions are logged to the timeline when the timer completes
1. Using the Timer
- Press START to begin a 25-minute focus session
- During a session, use PAUSE to pause and RESUME to continue
- Press SKIP to end the current session early and move on
- After a focus session, a break timer starts automatically
- A longer break occurs after every 4 focus sessions
Tip: You can also use the spacebar to start and pause the timer.
2. Setting Up Projects
Use the "What are you working on?" chips to label your work sessions.
- Select a project from the chip row at the top of the screen (e.g., "Development", "Study", "Reading")
- After selecting a project, "What type of work?" appears for further categorization
- Press the + button to add a new project
- You can start the timer without selecting a project — it will be recorded as "Uncategorized"
3. Reading the Timeline
After completing a session, today's timeline appears at the bottom of the screen.
- The horizontal axis represents time, with each block corresponding to a focus or break session
- Block colors match their assigned project
- During an active session, the current block grows in real time
- "Today's Summary" shows total focus time per project
4. Reports
Tap the report button (bar chart icon) in the header to view your focus trends over the past 7 days.
- A bar chart shows daily total focus time
- A donut chart breaks down focus time by project
5. Customizing Settings
Tap the settings button (gear icon) in the header to customize your experience.
- Timer Settings: Adjust focus duration, break duration, and rounds before a long break
- Sound Settings: Toggle the alarm sound on or off
- Project Management: Edit project names, colors, and work types
- Data Management: Reset all data
6. About Your Data
All Focus Timeline data (projects, records, and settings) is stored in your browser's LocalStorage.
- No data is ever sent to a server
- Clearing your browser cache or site data will permanently delete your records
- In private browsing mode, data may be lost when you close the tab
- Be careful when clearing browser data to avoid losing your records
